It’s rare that we get the opportunity to sit and relax with large format cigars… at least uninterrupted. But if there’s ever a chance… at least for me… it’s the summer. Whether relaxing poolside, enjoying an outdoor café or even just strolling through the neighborhood, the pleasure of smoking a large cigar is really unmatched.
Large cigars smoke very differently than smaller ones. First of all, they have more opportunity to change as you smoke them. Because premium cigars are “long-filler”, as you smoke them the flavor develops from start to finish as you smoke the tobacco leaves from tip to stem, and also as the residual oils and tars accumulate within the leaves. Additionally, a larger format keeps the hottest part of the cigar the furthest from your mouth, and larger ring gauges incorporate more air into the smoke as well resulting in an often cooler smoke.
Here are a few of my favorite large format cigars.

The shape is as enchanting as its flavor. A massive Figurado, this double-tapered smoke (8.25” X 57) changes from its narrow tip, into its full ring gauge, gradually tapering smaller and thinner introducing richer, more intense flavors throughout the rest of the cigar.

This “A” sized cigar should keep you entertained on a summer day. Starting creamy and smooth, it finishes rich and complex and will go great with a morning mimosa or a night cap.

The Stretch is the trophy format of the Crown Series. Slightly tapered at the foot and on the shoulder, it is rich and complex. With each puff, the cigar builds in intensity and strength, keeping you engaged as you anticipate all its changes. Make sure you don't have any major plans—it's a time commitment.
