It is March! March is a magical month in New York City for a few reasons. First, it is generally the time we gradually welcome in the warmer weather. This year the winter was absolutely brutal with record snowfall and frigid temperatures. Second, we do our annual physical inventories in the stores… when we get to count every single cigar, box, flint, match, magazine… you name it. But finally, and most important, we have the opportunity to celebrate Avo Uvezian’s birthday and enjoy his annual Limited Edition cigar for the first time.
The AVO brand was arguably the first cigars to introduce true Limited Editions, small production cigars made only once, never to be repeated. That was 2001 with the introduction of the AVO 75th Anniversary. Since then we’ve had the pleasure of enjoying the “AVO 22” in 2002, “AVO 77” in 2003, “AVO Legacy” in 2004, and “AVO LE-05” in 2005. In 2006 we celebrated Avo’s 80th Birthday with the “AVO 80th Anniversary”, followed by the “AVO LE-07” in 2007, “
AVO Tesoro” in 2008 and “
AVO Compañero” in 2009. And here we are in 2010, about to premiere the
“AVO Limited Edition 2010” to commemorate Avo’s 84th birthday.
The “AVO Limited Edition 2010” is a Super-Robusto format, at 5½” with a 55 ring gauge. It features a beautiful sun-grown wrapper from Ecuador, combined with Dominican Ligero fillers and a Sumatra binder from Mexico. It is undoubtedly full-bodied, but its strength is neither aggressive nor offensive. It is rich and complex yet round. Though absolutely ready to smoke now, it will no doubt be a cigar that will withstand the test of time in a humidor and develop further in aging. Only 6,000 boxes of 10 cigars were made, the most limited production in recent years for an AVO special release. Each box sells for $155 plus applicable taxes and will NOT last long.
A lucky few consumers will attend the sold out “AVO Dinner” at the Madison Avenue store on March 18 and have the first opportunity to taste and purchase this incredible cigar.
Due to larger production numbers in prior years, we have a small number of remaining boxes in the 2009 and 2008 releases as well. These cigars will not be featured on our website due to their limited nature. Please call a store to place your order.
