  Fall Evening Cigars
-----

Fall is in the air. I just took a quick trip up to my hometown of Danielson, CT over the weekend and was thrilled to be able to see the New England foliage. The colors are so incredible! The air was crisp at night, and the faint smell of wood burning in the evening was a clear indication that the cooler weather is upon us.

This past Saturday night, I sat out on the front porch of the house I grew up in, and enjoyed a Davidoff Millennium Petit Corona with a glass of Macallan 15 year Fine Oak. It was amazing how sitting out there brought back so many great memories of my childhood in that small town. I think that's one of the things I love most about cigars? When enjoyed properly in the right environment, a cigar allows you to relax, and meditate, and think, and as you begin reflecting on the things you appreciate in your life you also appreciate all the hard work that went into making that cigar, and you appreciate the complexity and uniqueness of the flavors.

As my thoughts drifted back to my cigar, I began to appreciate just how good it was. For such a small cigar, it had so many things to pay attention to. The wrapper was flawless, with even color and subtle veins. Just following the line of the wrapper down the body of the cigar to the cap I cut, the lines were perfect and even. The draw was effortless, and the slower I drew through the cigar, the cooler the smoke remained. The flavors were complex and changed throughout the smoke, despite its short length. It started pretty medium-bodied, but quickly gained in strength and flavor developing a full-palate impact. Spiciness impacted the front of my palate, while earth notes touched the back and sides. The Macallan was a wonderful complement to the cigar. Even though I was outside, the aroma of the cigar was apparent, as was the aroma of the great whiskey. Just as I took my last puff and sip, the cold air had gotten to me anyway, and I retreated back inside to join my family. But it really was the perfect compliment to an already fabulous day.

Here are few other "Fall Evening" recommendations.

Zino Platinum Crown Emperor Edition 2009
With only 2,000 boxes of ten available in the U.S., we are not expecting this production to last very long. It's a full-bodied, full-flavored omnipotent Robusto at 5" X 58 ring gauge. Two Piloto Ligero fillers from 2 different areas in the Dominican Republic and Nicaragua are bound by a Corojo/Olor hybrid binder. The dark, oily wrapper (Cuban-seed grown in Ecuador) has undergone a special fermentation process to make it incredibly flavorful delivering flavors of strong coffee, dark chocolate, and a touch of earth.
