A cigar is a “moment”. It’s really meant to be enjoyed in one sitting, and most manufacturers create and blend cigars with the clear intention of a beginning, middle and end to the experience. This is often easy to recognize when smoking larger formats like Churchill’s or Torpedo’s where the cigar’s size really has time to develop. Of course we can’t always commit an hour or two to enjoy a great cigar… especially during the Holidays. But there are other options!
Thanksgiving can be a hectic day. It kicks off the end-of-the-year countdown. It can often involve people who you may or may not want to catch up with sitting around a table for hours eating, drinking and fighting… uh I mean talking. And with all of that going on at once, you still have to find time for football. I mean, it’s a lot to handle for a day! So, the perfect cigar for me in dilemmas like this is a short perfecto. The experience of smoking this double tapered format is sort of like adding a few drops of water to a great Scotch Whiskey. Before the water, the aroma is still pleasant and the flavors fine, but when it opens up, its complexity and nuances demand that you take your time and pay attention to it.
The Perfecto format demands that the cigar changes and develops throughout the experience of smoking it with virtually every puff since with each puff the cigar burns down into a wider part of the shape until it begins to taper back again toward the cap. When you first light up a perfecto, its tapered foot is basically the wrapper and binder with very little filler. As you smoke the cigar, and it begins to burn down, the cigar becomes wider and wider gradually introducing more and more filler tobaccos into the flavor. As more filler burns it introduces more flavors. As the cigar gets thicker, it should also get richer and generally help it to remain cool. As long as the shape is changing, it would stand to reason that the flavor should be changing.
Here are some of my favorites. There are certainly countless other Perfectos that we maintain in our inventory from the new Alec Bradley Tempus Majestri, to the Arturo Fuente Work of Art Maduro… they’re all fabulous and interesting! If you don’t see what you’re looking for on our website, then please don’t hesitate to call or email us to inquire!!
Have a Happy Thanksgiving!

This cigar embraces everything Davidoff represents. After taking quality into consideration, the cigar is incredibly balanced and sophisticated. There is a touch of spiciness when you first light up the cigar that invites you to want to smoke more. As the filler begins burning, the cigar’s body becomes slightly heavier and the flavor becomes richer and more complex. Though the smoke remains cool throughout, the flavors continuously develop building gradually in strength, flavor and aroma.

If you haven’t tried a Zino Platinum yet, you should. The Zino Platinum cigars are a blend of tobaccos as complex as the flavor itself. The beautiful Ecuadoran wrapper is rolled on top of a creamy Connecticut Shade binder, both of which house the aged filler tobaccos from the Dominican Republic and Peru. At first light, the wrapper and binder offer an inviting prelude for what’s to come; and in just a few puffs, suddenly the flavor opens up as the draw opens up and the filler tobaccos kick in adding a richer darker flavor to round out the smoke. If you’re not in a rush you might want to try the Crown Series too… or if you’re pressed for time, opt for the Scepter Bullet instead… although in the spirit of full-disclosure I should warn you… you might love them... all of them.

I think everyone at some point in their cigar smoking journey has smoked an AVO cigar. And chances are, AVO cigars are always in the regular “smoking selections” for many of us – they certainly are for me. And do you know why they’re so popular? Because they’re great. The AVO line is pretty extensive with several blends and numerous formats in each; however one always stands out to me. The Domaine blend is slightly richer than the Classic and XO, slightly earthier than the Maduro, yet not as full as the Signature. It tends to be the cigar I go to when I’m just not sure what I want… kind of like a BLT is for me when I’m standing in line at the Deli and just can’t find the inspiration to decide between turkey on wheat or an Italian sub. The «20» is a gem. It’s smooth, it’s rich, it’s interesting, and it’s always consistent.

Yep! There’s a perfecto in the Griffin’s line. And you know what? It’s excellent. No not good… excellent. Creamy from start to finish, as the filler tobaccos are introduced so is a nuttiness and a toastiness that’s complimented by a touch of pepper and spice making for a wonderful medium bodied smoke that can be enjoyed at any time of the day.
